Gurkha Pant Buckles

Gurkha trousers skip the belt loops. The high waistband closes with side straps that pass through a buckle on each hip, and that buckle is the first detail people notice. This collection brings together the Gurkha pant buckles tailors and designers use for that closure: classic double prong Gurkha buckles, single prong and centre bar buckles, and metal slides. Everything here is sold as buckles only; trousers are not included.

      Gurkha pants buckle designs

Double prong buckle: The classic buckle for men's Gurkha pants. Two prongs grip the strap evenly, so the waistband sits flat and the buckle doesn't twist. Our Gurkha double prong buckle is a 3.3 cm metal buckle in gold, gun metal grey, antique brass, copper and shiny silver. For smaller quantities, there is also a 2-piece double prong buckle.

Single prong and centre bar buckles: A lighter look for narrower straps and women's Gurkha trousers.

Metal slides: A prong-free metal slide gives the strap an adjustable, sliding finish.

Rhinestone prong buckles: For occasion wear and womenswear takes on the Gurkha trouser, where the buckle is meant to be seen.

Single buckle, double buckle or two side buckles?

Most Gurkha trousers use a two side buckle setup: one strap and buckle on each hip, so one pair needs two buckles. Some designs use two straps on each side for a double buckle look, and a few minimal styles use a single buckle at the front. Count the straps in your pattern before ordering. Those side straps are also why Gurkha pants are so comfortable: the waist adjusts without a belt.

How to choose the best side buckle for Gurkha pants

It's the question tailors across India ask us most often, and for men's and women's Gurkha pants alike, the answer comes down to three things:

      • Strap width: the strap must pass easily through the buckle's inner frame, so measure it before choosing a size.
      • Finish: antique brass and copper suit khaki, olive and beige cotton; gun metal grey sits well on black and charcoal; gold and shiny silver turn the buckle into a design feature.
      • Hold: double prong for wider straps and heavier fabrics, single prong for lighter ones.

Outside India, the same hardware is often called a trouser side adjuster buckle or waist adjuster buckle. It works the same way as a side buckle for pants of any kind, from side buckle trousers to tailored pants with an adjustable waist.

      Gurkha pants buckle FAQs

How do you buckle Gurkha pants?

Pass the waistband strap through the buckle frame, push the prong (or both prongs) through the holes in the strap, then tuck the loose end under the keeper loop if there is one. Repeat on the other side.

What size buckle do Gurkha pants need?

Match the buckle to your strap width; the strap should pass through the inner frame without bunching. Sizes are listed on each product, and our double prong Gurkha buckle measures 3.3 cm. Not sure? Send us your strap width on WhatsApp.

What is the price of a Gurkha pants buckle?

Each product lists its price and how many pieces are included, so compare by pack size. The Gurkha double prong buckle, for example, comes in a pack of 5.

      Do you sell Gurkha pants?

No. We sell the buckle only, for tailors, designers and anyone replacing a buckle on their own trousers.

Is a Gurkha buckle the same as a belt buckle?

No. People often call it a Gurkha belt buckle, but it sits on the waistband strap itself and replaces the belt entirely.

Do Gurkha pants still need a button?

Usually, yes. The side buckles adjust the waist, while the front typically closes with a button or hook and bar. The buckle replaces the belt, not the front fastening.

Can you wear Gurkha pants without a belt or without the buckle?

They're designed to be worn without a belt. Without the buckle, the side straps have nothing to hold them, so the waist loses its fit and the trousers lose their signature look. If a buckle breaks, replace it rather than cutting off the strap.

How do you sew a Gurkha buckle on trousers?

Fold a fabric tab through the buckle's bar and stitch it securely to one side of the waistband, close to the bar. The opposite strap, with holes for the prongs, is stitched to the other side and passes through the buckle.

      Are Gurkha trousers formal?

They sit between formal and smart casual. In wool or pleated suiting with a polished metal buckle, they work for formal occasions; in cotton or linen with an antique brass or copper buckle, they suit everyday and weekend wear.
