Product Description
Black & Golden Chain Lace Border, 2.7 cm
A black and golden lace border with a row of golden chain links, 2.7 cm wide.
The design has three parts. On the top and bottom are two black braided bands, each with a soft looped edge. In the centre runs a continuous row of golden chain links, held in place with fine stitches. The black frames the gold, so the chain stands out sharply.
This black and gold braid trim works two ways. In Indian wear, it adds a festive golden line to black kurtis, suits, sarees and dupattas. In western wear, it gives the classic chain-edged look seen on tweed jackets, blazers and cardigans.
At 2.7 cm, it is wide enough to be seen from a distance and narrow enough for sleeves and necklines.
Where to use it
- Black kurtis and suits: on the daman (hem), sleeves and neckline
- Sarees: along the border or the pallu
- Dupattas and stoles: on all four edges
- Blouses: on the sleeve hems and the back neck
- Jackets, blazers and cardigans: along the front edges, collar and cuffs
- Dresses and skirts: at the hem or the waist
- Bags and hats: along the flap, strap or brim
Loved by boutique owners, fashion designers and DIY creators
- Boutique owners use it on plain black kurtis and suit sets, where one golden line turns them into festive wear.
- Fashion designers use this chain trim for clothing on tweed jackets, blazers and cardigans, along the front edges and pockets.
- Ethnic wear designers use it as a black and golden lace border on sarees and dupattas.
- Indo-western labels use it on crop jackets, shrugs and co-ord sets.
- DIY creators and fashion students use it to restyle old jackets, bags and hats.
Why it works
Black makes the gold look brighter. The black bands frame the chain, so it reads clearly even on dark fabrics.
One trim for two styles. The same lace suits a black kurti for Diwali and a tweed-style jacket for winter.
The braided edges are easy to stitch. You stitch along the black bands, and the stitches disappear into the black.
2.7 cm is a strong but neat width. It is bold on a hem or a jacket edge, but still sits well on a sleeve.

How to Use
- Measure the edge you want to cover and add 2 to 3 cm extra for the ends.
- Cut the lace and fold each end under, or seal it with a little clear fabric glue so the threads do not open.
- Pin the lace along the edge, keeping the chain row straight.
- Stitch along both black bands with black thread, by hand or by machine. Do not stitch through the chain links.
- For jacket edges, stitch the lace on after the lining is closed, so it covers the seam.
- Press the fabric from the wrong side on low heat, with a cloth in between.
