Some closures just fasten a garment. A frog closure gives the whole front its character. This Frog Closure Button from ANI Accessories, also called a Chinese knot button, pairs a sculpted matte knot with a clean double strand of braided cord. Together they form a closure that works as a design detail.
At 16 cm long when fastened, it is a bold, statement-size frog button. It is made to sit across a centre-front opening and draw the eye down the placket. The neat braided texture and the soft matte finish of the knot keep it refined rather than costume-like. That is why it works on contemporary streetwear jackets as well as Nehru jackets, bandhgalas, kurtas, cheongsam-inspired dresses and fusion wear.
Choose from cream, white or black. Use a tonal colour for a quiet, tailored look. For a graphic statement, contrast it with the base fabric, such as black frogs on ivory or white frogs on navy. Fashion designers, boutiques, garment manufacturers and DIY creators use these knot buttons to give jackets, coats and ethnic wear a finished, considered front.
Tip: For heavier fabrics or high-wear garments, back the area with interfacing for a cleaner, longer-lasting finish.
What is a frog closure button?
A frog closure is a decorative fastener made of two parts, a knot and a loop. The knot passes through the loop to close the garment. It is also known as a Chinese knot button or frog button.
What size is this frog closure?
It measures 16 cm when fastened, with a 1 cm double-cord width and a 1.7 cm knot.
Is it only decorative, or does it actually fasten?
It is fully functional. The knot fastens through the loop, so you can use it as the main closure on jackets, kurtas and dresses.
Which colours are available?
Cream, white and black.
How many frogs do I need for a jacket?
It depends on the garment length and your design. Many jacket designs use around 4–6 frogs on the centre front. Measure your opening and space them evenly.
Can I use it on Indian ethnic wear?
Yes. It works well on Nehru jackets, bandhgalas, kurtas and Indo-western outfits, as well as modern streetwear.
How do I attach it?
It is a sew-on closure. Hand-stitch both halves to the garment with matching thread. See the "How to Use" section for step-by-step instructions.
